Course Title
Basic Auto Body Repair and Restoration

Description

This course covers safety, tools and advance body repair and restoration.  Topics include shop safety, damage analogies, tools and equipment, advance repair techniques, and material selection.

Objectives

  • Upon completion of this class the student will be able to correctly use equipment used in the restoration of vehicles to repair and restore a vehicle.

Content

Rules
Class will start and end on time
Students must furnish their own personal hand tools
Students must furnish their own supplies
Personal cars will not be allowed to remain in the shop after Saturday’s class due to limited space
Students are required to clean the shop after Saturday’s class
The Auto Body Department at CPCC is not responsible for tools, parts and supplies left on the premises
Students are to furnish their own safety equipment (i.e.-safety glasses, respirators, work gloves, etc.)
Students are not allowed to use any tools or equipment unless they are properly trained
Students are not allowed to use CPCC’s equipment unless given permission and supervised by the instructor (i.e.-frame machine, welding equipment, etc.)
Students are only allowed to work on one car at a time in the shop

  • Spreaders (for body filler)
  • Automotive spray paint respirator

Materials Students Responsible for

  • Plastic Body filler (Bondo) and hardener
  • Polyester body filler and hardener
  • Duct tape
  • Urethane primer, reducer, hardener
  • Epoxy primer and activator
  • Automotive Paint masking tape
  • Paint
  • 6” round self-adhesive sandpaper (80 and 180 grit)
  • 17” file board sandpaper (80 and 180 grit)
  • Other supplies needed for your project

Basic hand tools to support the vehicle project student is working on

  • Body pack hammer
  • Body dolly
  • DA Sander
  • Angle die grinder with grinder disk
  • Air Blowgun
  • ¼” drive socket set-standard and/or metric
  • 3/8” drive socket set-standard and/or metric
  • combination wrench set-standard 7/16-9/16
  • combination wrench set-metric 6mm-16mm
  • Screw driver-common, phillips, torx
  • Ball peen hammer


Supplies provide by CPCC

  • Masking paper
  • Wax paper
  • Use of school air tools
  • Prep wipe towels
