Learn to develop a signature style for your home. Explore both contemporary and traditional styles of décor, combining what best fits your lifestyle, aspirations, and expresses your personal taste. Develop an understanding of quality in home furnishings, and learn to shop like a pro. We will include a field trip to a furniture store as part of the learning experience.

This course is required for the Interior Design for Your Home Certificate.

Class 1 - Where to Start

  • Introduction:  What to expect from the course     
  • Review the course outline
  • English and French styles of the 18th century

    Homework assignment:  Visit a low end furniture store and review, based on worksheet guidelines

Class 2 - Victorian, Modern, and Contemporary Styles

           Homework assignment:  Visit a high end furniture store and review,
                                               based on worksheet guidelines

Class 3 - Pulling it all together

  • Combining styles to create your own look
  • How to recognize quality in furniture
  • Shopping like a pro

Class 4 - Field trip to a furniture store
