What's All the Chatter About Twitter?

Description

Do you tweet? What is a "hashtag?" Or an @ sign? Over the past decade online social media has exploded. Follow friends, celebrities, or keep up with breaking news via Twitter, a social networking and microblogging tool; limited to 140 characters per tweet. Students will be introduced to basic and advanced features of Twitter and microblogging, while reviewing best practices for developing an online presence. Students are encouraged to take Social Media 101 prior to this class or have hands-on, basic experience with Twitter.

Presence and Identity

  • Review profile setting and bio
  • Apply custom design options
  • Connect Twitter to other social services and apps

  • Effective writing in 140 characters or less
  • Sharing media through Twitter
  • Hashtags and trending topics
  • Retweets, mentions and direct messages

Community Building

  • Connecting with other users and brands
  • Custom lists
  • Managing followers and connections

Prerequisites

  • CPCC student login
  • Twitter account creation
  • Social Media 101 to be taken by beginner students
  • It is encouraged to bring content and images to be used in building an online presence
